STEVEN GERRARD may be heading a ball more than 5,000 miles away, but back on his home turf another sort of fixture has been announced.

The Vincent Café and Cocktail Bar, which has the soccer star's financial backing, will open its doors in Liverpool on June 22nd.

The 190 cover, 6,000 sq ft restaurant, on Exchange Flags, is certainly big enough to accommodate any kickabout.

Paul Adams, who runs the Vincent Hotel in Southport, is behind the enterprise which will be open from breakfast till late into the evening, last orders for food is 10.30pm in the week and 11pm at weekends - just around the time of night the tardy peckish are wondering Chinese, Indian or kebab.

“It will serve a mixture of British and international dishes, including Gringo Sushi – a meat alternative to fish,” it says here. “A concept which Paul brought to the UK.”

According to the Vincent Southport menu, gringo sushi is aimed at people who don't like fish, so instead of tuna and eel, think pulled pork, chilli, bacon and sausage.

Still, there's plenty more going on seven days a week, it would seem. Adams said: “We want to welcome everyone from 16 to 80 – whether it's after-work cocktails, an early breakfast or an express lunch."

There is also a private meeting area with a 60-inch television screen, and on a Sunday there will be a pianist “making this a destination people will want to visit for a different type of atmosphere”.
