THEY call it Bollywood, but the morning after we filled our boots at the launch party of East Z East, it was more a case of bellywood.
Glamour and, more importantly, that fabled Punjabi cuisine, has arrived in Liverpool with the launch of a multi-million pound Indian restaurant.
East Z East brought the sights and sounds of Asia to Liverpool’s King’s Dock in an evening filled with Indian jazz fusion music, tabla drummers, a flautist and fire eaters.
Quite simply there is nothing like it in Liverpool. Situated opposite the Arena, it has a whopping 400 covers over two floors of glass, steel and crystal. All that - and curry too.
Back at the launch night (free bar, very loud music) there they all were: Hollyoaks people shmoozing over the saag paneer and last year’s Miss Liverpool, Amy Jackson, the first unknown British actress to have made it in Bollywood, star of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya.
Meanwhile, the banter was about anything but the bins as Roger Phillips and Billy Butler crammed in a naan.
RogerThis is the fourth restaurant to be opened by the award winning East Z East chain. Owner, Kabir Rayman, said: “Liverpool was the perfect location for our next restaurant as there is always so much going on here and I believe that there is a gap in the market for this particular type of cuisine.
“We will bring the very best in Punjabi cooking and service to the waterfront and we are looking forward to making many new friends in Liverpool – in what is a great city.”
