Snapping the spirit of Liverpool

LIVERPOOL, as seen through through the eyes of some of the country’s best amateur photographers – the youngest just six years old -  is the subject of  a show which opened today at Liverpool One.

It’s the result of a competition, Capture Liverpool, which was launched in March as part of Look11, the Liverpool International Photography Festival currently taking place at venues across the city.

Organised by the NW photography network Redeye, it received 370 submissions.  The images were whittled down to just six winners who were announced today at Cafe Sports Express.

Doug Wright ‘s photo, Liverpool Football Family, Geoff Crossley’s  Shoes FM, Chris White’s Misty Sunrise, and  Africa Bocos’ The Zanzibar took the honours in the adults section.

Josie Carter, six,  who shot Reflections on Wednesday Afternoon and 12-year-old James Holebrook, -  Untitled (Rock) – nailed it for the under 14s.

But there’s still one more.  You can vote for the The People's Choice – the snap you think deserves the seventh and final prize of £500 - by visiting the exhibition and voting in person at the Liverpool One Information Centre on Wall Street.  The winner will be announced on the festival’s website July 1st.

“This is the first international photography festival in Liverpool,” said photographer Colin McPherson who is heading the directors of Look11. “We have been delighted with the response and the quality of the photographs we’ve received.”

“Always have a camera with you. You never know when the opportunity for a great photo presents itself.”
