THE Biennial has announced a new chief executive and artistic director as this month marks a one-year countdown to its 2012 festival.

Sally Tallant, currently head of programmes at the Serpentine Gallery, London, will take up the top post in November, succeeding founding director Lewis Biggs.

Tallant, who brings 15 years of experience in working with international artists, is expected to lend strength to the local, national and international partnerships integral to the Biennial.

Sally TallantSally Tallant“Liverpool Biennial is a landmark project and as the UK’s Biennial it has become one of the best reviewed and attended arts events in Britain,” said she.  “I am excited to have the opportunity to lead the Biennial to the next stage of its development and build on its enormous successes to date.”

“We are thrilled that Sally will be joining us,” added Paula Ridley, Biennial chairman.  “Her career to date has made her one of the most respected curators in the UK and we believe that she will bring something very special.”

The next festival will run from September 15 to November 25 2012. Research and planning has been under way for some time, with organizers promising another collection of groundbreaking work from world-renowned artists.

The festival includes the City States programme, the John Moores Painting Prize and Bloomberg New Contemporaries, as well as a variety of independent exhibitions.
